5 Signs of Depression: Let's Talk

Depression is no sorrow or a quick phase that stays with you for a timing being but it is a monster that creeps under your bed when is dark and just walks out when there is sunlight. Mental illness is no joke and often people ignore it because they feel embarrassed to talk about it to someone or to simply vent it out. In a country like India, we often judge people without knowing what they are going through.

However, you know those feelings of general discontent, sadness, and hopelessness? If you feel them then surely do not ignore them. Getting suicidal and not able to vent out to your close ones is an alarming sign and hence should be taken care of. Here we have the five signs. Let's talk about the signs.


1. You don't get sleep

Depression strips you of your energy and makes you feel lethargic. You stop doing things you enjoy because you get too tired and begin sleeping excessively, or not sleeping at all. Most of us are aware of the term insomnia and that it is actually a borderline depression.


2. You feel everything too deeply

You are angry, happy, and sad all at once. You cannot control your emotions and thus that makes you feel irritated. Depression can swing your moods uncontrollably. You can go through bipolar situations without even realizing it yourself. Thus, one needs professional help as if not cure it can lead to some serious consequences.

3. Your topics of conversation have turned morbid

Suicides rarely come without the symptoms that show up beforehand. Depressed people will often talk about it. If you are in the company of a good friend who has flipped the morbid switch to your on and off button. Make sure you talk to that person and make it easy for him or her as well.


4. Your way of looking at things have become different

Having a life where there is no excitement and constantly making you hopeless is a sign of depression. As societal feelings of worthlessness, self-hate, or inappropriate guilt may be riding shotgun. You vocalize thoughts and blame yourself for everything.


5. You have no interest in things that you once enjoyed

Depression can rob you of things you love, surrendering you to the things that actually made you happy. This can many things like socializing family, friends, and hobbies.


Things one need to take care of

If depression has crept in, don't ignore it. Take professional help and get some strong support system of loving family and friends, you can overcome it. One needs to make sure that people are not too stressed.

1. Please sleep and sleep until you wake up.

2. Don't try to distance yourself, make sure you find some support.

3. Don't internalize your feelings.

4. Express some gratitude.

5. Lean on your faith, or something greater than you.

6.Practice mindfulness.

7. Rediscover the activities or hobbies that bring you joy, happiness, and vitality.
