7 Young Girls from Afghanistan Designed A Low-Cost Ventilator To Treat Coronavirus Patients

All girl's robotic team from Afghanistan recently designed a low cost and lightweight ventilator to treat patients suffering from coronavirus. The invention came at a time when the country is left with just 800 ventilators to treat an increasing number of coronavirus patients. The girls designed the ventilator in a record time of four months with a total cost of $700, which is remarkably less than the traditional cost of $20,000 for a ventilator. The invention has a battery back up of 10 hours and is now in its final testing phase.

Afghanistan's Health Ministry spokesperson Akmal Samsor has said, "The moment the ventilators pass through the final phase of testing they will be rolled out to multiple hospitals across the country. The designs will also be shared with the World Health Organisation (WHO) to use it for other countries."

This is a huge achievement for the girls who were earlier in news for their fight against inequality in Herat, the third-largest city in Afghanistan.

“We are delighted that we were able to take our first step in the field of medicine and to be able to serve the people in this area as well. All members of our team feel happy because, after months of hard work, we were able to achieve this result,”
