For the first time in the history of Navy, a woman completed a physically and mentally exhausting Navy SEAL officer assessment and selection in the USA. However, she was not selected for the SEAL contract. The candidate had not listed SEAL as her top choice warfighting community, and this became the reason for her non-selection as informed by Capt. Tamara Lawrence, a spokeswoman for Naval Special Warfare.
The military formally opened SEAL billets to women in 2016; women are yet to clear the 24-week basic underwater demolition/SEAL (BUD/S) training.
