“The weather was bad that day, but as our plane rose above the dark clouds, it seemed like flying in the heaven. That was a sortie with my instructor, but when you are on your first solo flight the only thing in mind is about getting down safely. The touchdown was smooth that day when I was alone in the cockpit," says Flying Officer Antara Mehta

She is an engineer and national-level basketball player. She graduated last week from the Air Force Academy in Hyderabad, and since childhood she has been dreaming of the blue uniform, joining the coveted IAF services. Antara is the only woman officer from her batch, who has been selected for this stream.

Bhawana Kanth, Mohana Singh, and Avani Chaturvedi were the first three women to be inducted as fighter pilots in the IAF. Initially there were six women who received the training, but only three could qualify for the advanced levels.
