BOLD is a speaker series designed by women for women! The program was founded by Rachel Zillner and Anne Descalzo. Both leaders hold a passion for helping their community and believe this program is essential in helping women connect on a deeply human level. BOLD strengthens commonalities among women and commences positive change in our community, that we need, especially in COVID times. BOLD helps us stay strong, together!
“Our hope is to see more equality in the workplace, home life, and everyday interactions! BOLD was created for women to have a safe space to share their stories of struggle and hope. On this platform, women are able to have a voice, be vulnerable, uplift other women - so all participants know that they are not alone and that they can also thrive through pain and difficulty in life.” -Rachel Zillner, Founder
In our Fall 2020 series, there were four wonderful speakers that shared their vulnerable, empowering stories. All of the speech themes were based on a single letter from the title of the program: BOLD (B, O, L, D). Our speaker’s themes included: Baby, Only, Lover and Daughters. Baby speaker, Janette Cruz, spoke about the difficulty of her transition into motherhood. Tara Taylor, the speaker on Only, shared her story of surviving her traumatic upbringing - persevering with resilience. The Lover speaker, Kerri Naber, shared her story on how tough marriage is as a newlywed. And the fourth speaker, Martha Logren, talked about Daughters, diving into balancing the dynamic role of being both a mother and daughter.
“The stories shared are topics that connect to mental health struggles such as depression, grief, societal body shaming, burn-out, addiction, the difficulty of balancing the role of being a mother, and more. BOLD strongly believes in inclusivity and intentionally; half of our speakers are women of color. We want all women to feel welcome becoming part of our community regardless of their race, sexuality, or ethnicity.” -Anne Descalzo, Founder
Our goal is to create a community where women can support one another through their shared experiences! The series originated as an in-person event, but with COVID-19 have pivoted to a virtual/live-streamed event. We choose to lean into optimism and see the value in the important work that we are doing in the emotional intelligence space; being virtual allows more people to receive the messages they need to hear.
