The Chinese scientist Dr Li-Meng Yan allegedly came across the proof of coronavirus being lab-made while studying pneumonia in Hong Kong School of Public Health in Wuhan.
The virologist in a video interview has claimed that she possesses scientific proof that the COVID-19 virus originated in a government-controlled laboratory in Wuhan, China. She said that the virus was made in a lab controlled by the Chinese government and not in a wet market in Wuhan, which according to her was "simply a smokescreen," reports WION.
When Yan raised concerns, the Chinese officials ignored her warnings and later employed people to defame her. She faced life threats from the Chinese officials after which she flew to the United States of America. However, the director of the Wuhan Institute of Virology, Yuan Zhiming, had previously denied all the allegations.
Washington Post article dated 14 April 2020, reported the visit of US Embassy staff to the WIV in 2018 and “had grave safety concerns” about biosecurity there. Wuhan Centers for Disease Prevention and Control (WCDPC) is also located in Wuhan. It is a BSL-2 lab that is just 250 metres away from the Huanan market. In the past, the bat coronaviruses have been stored here. According to some researchers, Wuhan is geographically unlikely to be an epicentre for a natural zoonotic transfer. It is more plausible in the southern, subtropical provinces of Guangdong, Guangxi and Yunnan. Thereby pressing the possibility for lab origins of the virus.
In the past, the H1N1 influenza virus was accidentally released while developing a flu vaccine in a laboratory in Russia (or possibly China) in 1977. This too resulted in a global pandemic.
