It is no secret that women have performed extremely well in various fields including politics. Here is another reason which will make us take pride in being a woman.
Christina Alexandra Freeland, popularly known as Chrystia Freeland, 52, became the First Female Finance Minister of Canada on 18th August 2020.
Freeland started her career as a Canadian journalist and politician. She worked in a variety of editorial positions at the Financial Times, The Globe and Mail, and Thomson Reuters, and eventually becoming the managing director of the latter.
In 2013, she became a member of the House of Commons followed by a cabinet member in 2015 under the newly- elected Prime Minister Justin Trudeau. Freeland is counted among the most trusted ministers of Prime Minister Trudeau. She is also accredited for managing the country's foreign affairs from 2015 till 2017. In 2019, Freeland helmed the role of a Deputy Prime Minister. Her list of achievements seems to be endless and thereby making her an apt candidate for the position of Finance Minister by Trudeau's cabinet.
August 18, 2020, marks the day when Canada moved a step closer to gender inclusivity and setting the right example for other countries to follow.
Aside from Freeland's political career, one must not miss her literary achievements. She is a winner of the 2013 Lionel Gelber Price for non-fiction reporting on foreign affairs, and the 2013 National Business Book Award for the most outstanding Canadian business-related book. The book in question here is Plutocrats: The Rise of the New Global Super-Rich and the Fall of Everyone Else.
