Ellen DeGeneres called a Toxic Host by Hedda Muskat

Updated: Aug 8, 2020

On Monday, Hedda Muskat, the former producer of the famous daytime talk show "The Ellen DeGeneres" slammed the comedian (Ellen DeGeneres) as a "toxic host." Hedda blamed Ellen for the toxic work environment, propagating "the culture of fear" ever since the show began. The remarks by Heda came at a time when the show's current and old employees are accusing its top executives of sexual misconduct and inappropriate work behavior.

The wrap reported Heda Muskat's past experience with one of the executive directors of the show Ed Galvin. Heda told the Wrap, Ellen willfully ignored Galvin's bullying on employees. He used to shout and yell at the workplace, behave inappropriately with the employees, and was never held accountable. All this because Galvin had Ellen's back, and it was Ellen's show.

Key Highlights

  • Current and old employees of The Ellen DeGeneres Show has accused its top executives of sexual misconduct. An internal investigation has started.

  • There's a resounding demand by the audience for Ellen to step down.

  • Ellen apologized for the unfortunate incidents.

Post the barrage of accusations, there was a social media outrage demanding Ellen's resignation. The show came under fire for unethical behaviors, sexual misconduct, racism, and many more allegations by its ex and current staffers. To which, Ellen emailed her staff apologizing for the series of events. She wrote, "On day one of our show, I told everyone in our first meeting that ‘The Ellen DeGeneres Show’ would be a place of happiness — no one would ever raise their voice, and everyone would be treated with respect. Obviously, something changed, and I am disappointed to learn that this has not been the case,” reported by Variety.

“I could not have the success I’ve had without all of your contributions. My name is on the show and everything we do and I take responsibility for that. Alongside Warner Bros., we immediately began an internal investigation and we are taking steps, together, to correct the issues. As we’ve grown exponentially, I’ve not been able to stay on top of everything and relied on others to do their jobs as they knew I’d want them done. Clearly some didn’t. That will now change and I’m committed to ensuring this does not happen again,” she added.

The matter is being probed by Warner Bros. while the sentiments remain high on social media.
