Feminism through the eyes of a man

Society is evolving at a far rapid pace in the last half a century than it has in the thousands of years. Technology had played a role in the widespread dissemination of ideas and thoughts. Humans are a judgemental and biased lot, everything is viewed with distrust and pessimism. One such idea is Feminism and it’s viewed with suspicion by Men. Equality for all as a word is accepted in wholehearted spirit by men but they start doubting women who espouse feminism.

“The feminist agenda is not about equal rights for women. It is about a socialist, anti-family political movement that encourages women to leave their husbands, kill their children, practice witchcraft, destroy capitalism, and become lesbians.”- The quote is attributed to Pat Robertson. He said it in the ’90s and it’s widely shared by men today also. I don’t hate the idea of feminism but rather the message it sends across. Feminism emerged from the western world and spread like a fire to the societies grappling with misogynism. The reason for feminism getting a bad name in the man community is due to the hatred some feminists have for men. There are plenty of examples where feminists have called men names and use slurs against the men in general and I am okay with that.
Abusing men aren’t the problem, making an enemy out of an ally is the problem. Men have been the part of the violence and society misogyny against women and I would be the first one to admit it. Men are trying to address it with the help of laws to protect women from deranged individuals. Feminism is about addressing the inequality in society and one needs to appreciate the work the different feminist organizations are doing.
Feminism has become a political weapon to bring down opponents, this is the biggest grouse I have with feminists in general. Feminism has become the weapon of left to attack the right on several issues becoming an ideological weapon in general. I will elaborate on this with a simple example I witnessed in recent times. On July 9, 2018, President Donald Trump nominated Brett Kavanaugh for Associate Justice of the Supreme Court of the United States to succeed retiring Justice Anthony Kennedy. His appointment was questioned because he was a Donald Trump nominee and would upset the left hegemony in the Supreme Court. Christine Blasey Ford wrote a letter to Senator Dianne Feinstein in July 2018 accusing Kavanaugh of sexual assault while they were both in high school in 1982. A serious allegation indeed and a full-fledged FBI investigation was conducted and became a trial of the decade. There were attempts by feminists to paint him as a rapist without any investigation and it was sad sight for us. The full senate hearing was done and the FBI didn’t found any merit in the investigation.

Brett won the decision in his favor but his life was tainted forever. Feminists still kept chewing at his legacy and name, calling it a biased judgment. They dragged his religion, his work, and his family through the mud. Now, compare this to the Joe Biden case. A former aide to Biden, Tara Reade from, says that in 1993, in a corridor in a Senate office building, he pushed her against a wall and assaulted her, penetrating her with his fingers. A serious allegation indeed and this required the feminists to ask questions to Joe. The House speaker, Nancy Pelosi, the highest-ranking Democrat in Congress, said she was satisfied with Biden’s response. In 2019, Reade and seven other women accused the former Vice-President of indecent gestures. CNN and other left leaning organizations have been silent on this so far. No op-ed or feminist organizations calling for the boycott of Biden or asking for investigations.
This is why Feminism is being seen as suspicious by men because of the ideology it peddles. Feminism needs to fight to bring equality to the table, not fight political battles. Feminists can’t choose sides in the political arena, one can’t be biased to one leader or political ideas. Feminism is not taking the side of Palestine while castigating Israel. Israel gives full rights to the LGBTQ community and it’s the only country in the whole Middle East to do so. Right-leaning leaders are hounded by feminists for a simple mistake while ignoring the abuse perpetrated by people with left-leaning ideology. It doesn’t suit a movement to be biased in its approach to giving the women the equality they desperately need.

Feminism don’t need to create enemies out of men like us who understand the violence and systematic discrimination against women. Time to pick the right battles and win the war with us. If you fight with a neutral, you create another enemy. Feminists fought to remove the girls who work at F1 races as a cheerleader because they called it exploitation. Did the feminists ask the opinion of the models? Where their concern is now considering choice is a word used by them? Hypocrisy is something that turns me off when dealing with feminists. This is what I think of feminism. A great idea is in danger of becoming lost because messengers are biased and hell-bent on creating enemies where none are.
