German Chancellor, Angela Merkel topped Forbes 2019 world's most powerful woman list followed by European Central Bank head Christine Lagarde from France and US Speaker of the House of Representatives Nancy Pelosi.

In 2015 amidst the migrant crisis, Merkel's "open door" refugee policy welcomed over 1 million Syrian Refugees. She was hailed for firmly standing up against Donald Trump. She has led for over 18 years country's centre-right Christian Democratic Union (CDU) party. She is hailed as the de facto leader of the European Union and even the 'leader of the free world'.
With all the above-mentioned merits, and much more in her list Angela Merkel for the ninth time straight is crowned "the most powerful woman of the world" by Forbes, and rightly so.
