On 4 August, Lebanon witnessed a massive explosion at the port in Beirut killing at least 137 people and injuring thousands of others. French President Emmanuel Macron reached the city today morning and ensured its grieving angry citizens that French aid would not go to "corrupt hand."
He said, “I guarantee you this - aid will not go to corrupt hands.” He further added, "I will talk to all political forces to ask them for a new pact. I am here today to propose a new political pact to them.”
"France has long sought to support its former colony and has sent emergency aid since the blast, but is worried about endemic corruption and has pressed for reforms as a financial crisis deepened in the Middle East country. After landing in Beirut, Macron said France’s solidarity with the Lebanese people was unconditional but said he wanted to tell some “home truths” to political figures." — Reuters
