Love is a Scam

By Valerie-Pearl Oyo

I awoke to boredom;

And felt unsure about my day;

So I picked up my keys and rode to the near by street;

To my greatest surprise I saw a man with the bluest of eyes;

Blackest of hair;

Perfect shaped nose;

Skin as bright as the sun or should I say, goldish yellow,

His smile could keep you staring with mouth agog;

And oh, his height?

It was the perfect height,

His body?

He was quite muscular;

What a scene to behold.

And yes, I could say I was in love or should I say, it was love at first sight,

I really did not believe in it but I now believed it because I felt it;

Anyway, the world is full of doubting Thomases;

Well, I couldn't tell anyway if he felt same;

But his smile made me think he did-

Or wished he did.

We stared quite long at each other as though we were arguing in our minds who should say hello first;

I saw him walking right toward my direction;

Oh, I won;

He seemed like a beacon of hope and light;

Well, that's how I saw him;

Heart beating faster and faster as he pulled closer and closer;

I began to think,

Of the perfect name to call him;

Our first date;

Everything;

What a perfect way to while time away.

Just a pace to where I sat-

Increasing impulse;

And oh, he passed;

Did he just pass me?

I turned around to see a lady;

Oh, I was such a fool-

So it's true what they say,

"Love is a scam".
