Trump delivered his speech before Macron, saying he had applied strict sanctions on the number one government sponsoring terrorism. French President Emmanuel Macron expressed his criticism of the US action to reinforce UN sanctions against Iran during a speech to the UN General Assembly (September 22nd). The United Nations commemorated its 75th anniversary last Monday evening with a special ceremony. In the light of corona restrictions, many a country sent only one representative to the UN General Assembly. The speeches and video messages had been shipped already. US President Donald Trump and his Iranian counterpart Hassan Rouhani made a speech on the General Assembly first day. The Iran issue has been considered to be one of the main topics of the lectures. Macron reminded the audience that the United States has not successfully followed the maximum pressure sanctions policy against Iran. Washington does not lie in a position to activate the trigger mechanism against Iran. The French president went on to call the trigger mechanism activation as a threat to the unity and integrity of the United Nations Security Council, undermining its decisions and exacerbating tensions in the region.

Hours prior to Macron's speech, his American counterpart, Donald Trump, came to the defense of his country's policy of "maximum pressure" against Iran and called the withdrawal of JCPOA (BARJAM) and the assassination of Qassem Soleimani as effective actions of his government. He said his government left a terrible nuclear deal with Iran and imposed punitive sanctions on the government number one pro-terrorism.
The US-France controversies over Iran and Hezbollah in Lebanon
US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo had strongly denounced France's policies in the region, particularly concerning Hezbollah in Lebanon a few days ago. "France should stand for freedom, not for the Tehran regime," he said, rebuking Macron's policies apropos the Islamic Republic. Unlike the United States, Germany, Britain, and many other European countries, France does not take into account Hezbollah Lebanon, a terrorist organization.
US officials recently make an accusation of stockpiling chemicals in Europe against Hezbollah Lebanon. But the allegations were dismissed by Agnes Vandermol, a spokeswoman for the French Foreign Ministry, saying the country had obtained no evidence of stockpiling chemicals by Lebanese Hezbollah in Europe. Hezbollah was also called as an armed and powerful group with a "legitimate political role" in Lebanon by Agnes Vandermolen.
