NASA successfully launched the Mars Perseverance rover into space

A historic mission has taken its flight from Cape Canaveral, Florida.

NASA launched the Perseverance rover on-time in search of traces of potential past life on the Red Planet. Perseverance is settling for its seven-month interplanetary flight with the expected landing date of February 2021.

Official NASA handle celebrated the successful launching through a tweet, "We have LIFTOFF to Mars! The @ulalaunch Atlas V takes flight with our @NASAPersevere rover. The #CountdownToMars continues as Perseverance begins her 7-month journey to the Red Planet!"

Perseverance is due to land at the base of a 250-meter-deep crater called Jezero, a former lake from 3.5 billion years ago that scientists suspect could bear evidence of potential past microbial life on Mars. According to them, the "seven minutes of terror," when the robot endures extreme heat and speeds during its descent through the Martian atmosphere, deploying a set of supersonic parachutes before igniting mini rocket engines to touch down on the planet's surface, will be one of the most complex manoeuvres in Perseverance's journey. For the first time, there will be testing of powered on Mars through a 1.8 kilogram autonomous helicopter called Ingenuity.

We leave you with the glimpse of this historic launching, a sight of pride and success.
