"Presidency Not For Women," says Philippine President Rodrigo Duterte

Rodrigo Duterte, President of the Philippines, recently in an interview said that his daughter won’t run for the presidential seat because it is not a job for women. The statement was made in the light of the coming 2022 election when President Rodrigo Duterte term is set to end.

Sara Duterte-Carpio, commonly known as Inday Sara is President's daughter, Mayor of Davo city, and a certified colonel in the Philippines armed forces. She was being urged to run for the President in 2022. However, her father expressed his concerns. He said, "I have told Inday not to run because I pity her that she will have to go through what I experienced. This is not for a woman. You know, the emotional set-up of a woman and a man is totally different. You’ll go nuts here. That is a sad story."

This is not the first time that President Duterte found himself in a controversy. He has a history of making sexist statements in public. According to TIME, 75-year-old Duterte has passed lewd remarks about his Vice President’s legs and joked about having women shot “in the vagina.”

Washington Post also has reported President Duterte callously making rape jokes and even kissing a married woman in public. Inday Espina-Varona, a gender activist from the Philippines, has called Duterte “the misogynist in chief.”

In 2019, he publicly bragged about sexually assaulting a maid while she slept, in his teens. He had also objectionably called former US President Barack Obama the “son of a whore.”

There seems to be no end to the list of President Duterte's brazen sexist remarks.
