Sue Strachan Becomes Cricket Scotland's First Woman President

In 140-years of Cricket Scotland's history, Sue Strachan is the first woman to become its President on August 20, 2020. In an interview with BBC, Strachan expressed her intent to increase the participation of women in her two years tenure. She said, "The more girls that we have involved, the more the standard is driven up,". Strachan further added, "Sport for women is great and I want to spread that message to people."

Strachan expressed her gratitude on Twitter. She wrote: "I have been completely overwhelmed by the messages of congratulations and support from the Twitterati as I take up the role of President of  Cricket Scotland. I will do my best to make you all proud."


“Being elected as President of Cricket Scotland is a huge honor. To be the first female president is an even greater honor and also a huge responsibility,” Strachan said. She has been on the board for four years. “I am committed to not only cherishing and celebrating the rich history and traditions of cricket in Scotland but also to be part of moving forwards in our aims to make cricket mainstream,” she added, reports Cricket Scotland.com.


Strachan works as a renal physician. She is also a Scottish Masters's squash champion and played hockey and tennis at leisure.  

"I have had so much fun with my sport, as well as the health benefits it gives me, of which obviously as a doctor I’m so well aware, it’s social and fun and being part of a community."
