Milan Fashion Week came to an end on Sunday Evening with a scintillating live show. The city that once experienced Europe's first and worst coronavirus outbreaks was seen dazzling in colours, fabrics, and joy thanks to the designers who didn't give up and presented the world with a stunning collection.
Fendi, Dolce&Gabbana, Max Mara, Salvatore Ferragamo and Valentino were among the top fashion houses who kept a physical presence this round. Prada premiered its first collection by the collaborative efforts of Miuccia Prada and Raf Simons, and so did the models who adorned the collaborative collection, which is to say, the models in the show were making their debuts too, having never previously walked a runway.
For Prada, a new chapter unfolded while for Fendi, it was a closing of one. Milan Fashion Week was
Silvia Venturini Fendi's last solo collection before British designer Kim Jones becomes the brand's new artistic director of womenswear. Not surprisingly, the erudite designer chose the theme 'family' for her final solo show. Silvia Fendi's grandparents founded the label a century ago as she carried forward the legacy with panache.
On the runway, the label once again stayed true to its commitment towards diverse casting. Plus-size model Ashley Graham walked at the in-person show along with supermodels Penelope Tree and Yasmin Le Bon, aged 70 and 55 respectively. They showcased the brand's new collection crafted beautifully in muted tones.
Donatella Versace with their "optimistic, dreamy and positive" collection created history when they sent three plus-size models, namely Jill Kortleve, Precious Lee and Alva Claire, on one of its runways for the first time in its history.
MFW was a gala of colours, extravaganza, creativity Italy's best-known labels, Valentino's homecoming. Yes, you read it right. The luxury house who has never shown womenswear in Milan, and hasn't presented menswear there for 13 years, marked the re-entry of Valentino in style and its signature Rockstuds.
