Childhood

Being the daughter of a famous actress and supermodel Yolanda Van den Herok, Gigi was first spotted by Paul Marciano of GUESS Clothing fame. She started modeling for Baby GUESS at the age of two. After a while, she quit modeling to focus on school. Her real name is Jelena Noura Hadid and the nickname was passed on to her by her mother who was called Gigi by her parents. As a kid, she developed a passion for volleyball. She was a Junior Level Olympic Player and represented her school on many grounds. She is also a skilled horse rider. Having a soft spot for cooking made her participate in the world-famous cooking reality show Master Chef. After finishing up her last year of high school, Gigi returned to modeling in 2011. She resumed her career and became the face of Paul Marciano's GUESS in 2012.

She Came and Conquered the Fashion World

Hadid officially entered the Fashion world in February 2014, when she walked the runway for Desigual's show at fashion week. The Fashion Week debut really did the trick! Just a year later, Gigi signed on to become Maybelline's brand ambassador. She starred in numerous music videos for melodious singers like Cody Simpson, Taylor Swift, and Zayn Malik due to which she was called Video Vixen. By May 2015, Gigi was officially an "It" girl. At that point, she had walked for Marc Jacobs, Chanel, Michael Kors, and Max Mara - meaning she was definitely in the mix and a force to be reckoned with. She landed her first Victoria's Secret Fashion Show in December 2015. In 2016, Gigi became the global brand ambassador for the All-American designer, Tommy Hilfiger. Her success was noticed and duly appreciated in December 2016, when she won the "International Model of the Year" award at the British Fashion Awards. She's indeed a talented woman to have achieved all of this in just two years.

Personal Life

Gigi is a proud Palestinian. She's been very outspoken about her Arabian Identity and how being a half-Palestinian has enriched her life. She believes that "being more of one thing doesn't make someone less of something else". She has been open and loving to all religious backgrounds which is why she was seen celebrating Eid with boyfriend Zayn Malik and had also marched the streets of New York protesting against US President Donald Trump's anti-Muslim travel ban in 2017. She has often spoken about body positivity and motivated women to follow their passion.
