To the shining stars of Literature

Writer: realshepowerrealshepower

Literature is full of women who have stood out as role models, icons, path breakers and revolutionised all who have read their stories. These feisty females are trailblazers for different reasons, each of which is as valid as the other. Presenting a list of the most inspiring women characters ever:

Hermione Granger

J K Rowling’s young muggle-born witch taught the world that it is cool to be insufferable know it all, smarter than everyone, and that knowledge indeed is power. A well-read woman is a dangerous creature is an adage that fits Hermione Granger to the T.

Lisbeth Salander

The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo teaches one to fight back and strike with all the power inside. She might be a victim but is never weak. Different than the world and all its cousins, Lisbeth is supremely comfortable in her own skin.

Scarlett O Hara

Scarlett may be fickle, petty and manipulative. But she is a rebel, a survivor who cares two hoots about what the world thinks. A brat and yet the most loved of all of literature’s heroines. She has that ability to struggle through trauma to reach tomorrow. Which, of course, is another day.

Arya Stark

For teaching the world on how to bide time, to train one's mind and that revenge is a dish best served cold. Oh, and it’s cool to keep lists.

Becky Brandon

For teaching eternal optimism, especially when the skies are overcast. And for reinforcing that there's no trouble that a little bit of shopping can't solve.

Katniss Everdeen

The Hunger Games girl is another survival. From fighting for family, for self and freedom and that no price is too high if it sets you free.

George or Georgina

In the world of girls being girls, she was the first tomboy. Enid Blyton’s Georgina who hated to be called that made it clear to little girls that what boys can do, girls can do better. And not all girls are wispy fainting things who run away from adventures.

Priyanka Modi is a writer, environmentalist and mother. She loves to read and believes that books can change the world.
