What will you choose Love or Power?

“Where Love rules, there is no will to power, and where power predominates, Love is lacking.”

The tales of the triumph of good over evil have been prevailing since time immemorial. Ramayana in which Lord Rama defeats Ravana, Mahabharata-the epic that showcases the victory of dharma over adharma. In the modern era, the same concept is being adapted by the writers of films where the leading man-the protagonist of the film defeats the antagonist or rather villains in the language of cine-goers and eventually gets the Love of his life back.

This tale of two mindsets was also the theme of Beauty and the Beast-where the lady was compassionate and caring and the beast was hostile and fearful.

Love and power are two different things, often at odds with each other. Love is about affection and respect on the other hand power is about control. Love sets a person free while power binds the person. Love leads to the establishment of peace and harmony, while power can only lead to vengeance and destruction.When Ashoka chose to stop waging wars after the battle of Kalinga, he chose Love over power. Power is used when something is done without someone’s approval while when something is done with someone’s approval, it is done with Love.Love sets a foundation for a relationship while power can become on the predominant reasons behind the endowment of a relationship. You need power, only when you want to do something harmful otherwise love is enough to get everything done.

“All history is only one long story to this effect: Men have struggled for power over their fellow-men so that they might win the joys of earth at the expense of others, and might shift the burdens of life from their shoulders upon those of others.”

The hate of men will pass, dictators will die, the power they took form people will return to people and so long as men die, liberty will never perish and so will love. The castle that is built at the cost of destroying someone else’s palace doesn’t sustain for a longer period of time.

“Power without Love is destructive and cold while power guided by love is creative and harmonising”. In the pursuit of power, people have created mass destruction leading to wars, genocides, terrorism and totalitarianism.

So in my opinion, Love is the only “power” that can put an end to all the evil practices prevailing in the world-the only way to stop humanity from getting vanquished.
