United State's Megan Rapinoe won Women's Ballon d'Or with England's Lucy Bronze being the runner-up. Megan, unfortunately, couldn't attend the award ceremony, however, in a recorded message she said, "I'm so sad I can't make it tonight. It's absolutely incredible, congrats to the other nominees. I can't believe I'm the one winning in this field; it's been an incredible year. I want to thank my team-mates and the US federation."
Lyon Striker, who was the first winner of women's Ballon d'Or started last year in 2018, came fourth this year followed by Vivianne Miedema while Alex Morgan secured the third spot in the Ballon d'Or ranking.
2019 has been a special year for Megan. She made the headlines for all the right reasons. From her stealer performance in the world cup to use the spotlight for showing support to LGBTQ+ Rights, Equal pay for equal opportunity and making a strong statement of not visiting the white house if the US of A won the world cup. She also joined the national squad team in suing their federation for equal pay.
We sure can't be more proud of her — heartiest congratulations to Megan on this phenomenal achievement.
