We bring to you our weekly edition of "Women who Inspire". Niharkia Gautam is an advisor, United Nations SDGs, Board Member, Country Ambassador, Chairperson and a Speaker.
She is an Apparel & Fashion industry leader specializing in Asia, Europe, US & Middle East with over 10 years of experience across several domains. She also consults and advocates for United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) in Fashion industry, focusing on; SDG 12 and 8: Circular Economy and Sustainability in Fashion and SDG 5: Gender Equality in Fashion, Women in Leadership, Gender Pay Gap. She has delivered keynotes at prestigious international conferences/ summits on devising sustainable, eco- solutions, circular economy and women empowerment in fashion industry.
After spending a decade in the fashion industry, undertaking roles across design,business & marketing, Niharika was introduced to the ugly side of the industry when she came across the carbon footprint it has created and the despicable working conditions of women in the factories. She realized that while we are all talking about eco-fashion,sustainability in fashion but nothing will work unless we do something about circulareconomy and uplifting the status of women in the industry.
With a passion for social and sustainable business models, she uses her professional experience to get involved in causes that make a difference. She has traveled across the globe to attend industry events, trade shows and to speak at conferences/ summits on sustainability and women empowerment in fashion industry.
She also does Mentoring, facilitating positive discussions focusing on the areas of Sustainability, promoting healthy learning dynamics in Global community.
She is actively involved in devising sustainable solutions, extensively doing research into forecasting and macro & micro trends for the industry. Her biggest strength is her holistic approach towards life. She fundamentally takes into account the impact her choices have on the planet. With her own approach to consuming, maintaining, and disposing of a product, Niharika is able to create a real
paradigm shift in people’s thinking about consumerism.
